Skilled Migration
Australia's economy is one that has remained robust and is continuing to grow strongly despite the global downturn which has adversely affected many other countries. This means there are many excellent opportunities for skilled persons -- Australia needs qualified professionals like you.
There are some basic requirements you or your spouse must satisfy. You or your spouse must:
- be under 45 years of age when you apply
- have a nominated occupation that is in the Skilled Occupations List (see also the Migration Occupations in Demand List)
- possess a good level of English
- have a post-secondary educational qualification, such as a trade certificate or a university degree, OR considerable relevant work experience in your nominated occupation
The following are the types of categories under which you can apply as a skilled migrant:
Independent Category
This category applies to you if you do not have a sponsor or have chosen not to be sponsored by someone within Australia, or if you have been nominated by a State or Territory Government.
Skill Matching Category
The skill-matching database is used to aid migrants to settle within Australia where their skills are most needed. If you register your details into the skill-matching database, this information will be kept for two years during which time you may be nominated for migration. This category is not points tested. You should consider migrating under this category if you are uncertain whether you will past the points test eventhough you satisfy the basic requirements.
Family Sponsored Category
If you or your spouse has a relative in Australia who is willing to sponsor you and provide financial support, you can choose to migrate under this category.
